Make a difference in someone's life every day.

Family, past and present, together forever.

I sit and reflect on my family with pride.
Because I know I have nothing to hide.
That is except for the distance that keeps us apart.
But they know I love them with all my heart.

I think of them almost every day.
Although I don’t write them to say hey.
Surely they know they’ll see me again.
But I really don’t know when.

My life is so busy all I can do is rush—rush—rush.
Until my brain feels as though it is full of mush—mush—mush.
The idea of spending time with family will just have to wait.
But by the time I get to see them, for some it is too late.

Many times I visit only when one of them has died.
So when I said to them I’ll come see you, I lied.
It’s at those times I learn the most about the one who has past.
My family fills me with memories of them that will always last.

It’s at that time I am filled with guilt and grief at my loss.
But then I realize that I must spend time with my family no matter the cost.
For it is our family, through us, that will live on forever you know.
Can I afford to ignore my loved ones and not visit, I say no.

Family has become the most important thing to me.
I must be with them and love them you see.
They are my connection to all those who have gone on before.
Our memories of family, past and present, will complete our lives forever more.

In dedication to my loving family,
I love you all.

Rhyme and Reason

During our life we have many trials
Most of which we will conquer
But when we feel we can last no longer
It is then we ask for rhyme and reason

Although we often fail to find resolution
What matters most is not understanding
Rather it is the positive we may accomplish
For in the negative there is no rhyme and reason

In the times we feel failure most
Our lives should reflect our success
No one is ever alone when they cry out in pain
For needing others requires no rhyme and reason

If you let your gloom and doom succeed
Then your world which could be, is not
Time is better spent in healing, not in hurting
So why waste time wanting rhyme and reason

When you cease to continually improve yourself
The good you could do for others, dies
Our life is best spent sharing ourselves with others
This and none other is our rhyme and reason

Why Do I Sit and Ponder?

Why do I sit and ponder and cannot stand, I wonder?

Is it because I cannot walk around to go here and yonder to ponder?

Is it to think myself a better person if I just sit to ponder?

Or am I afraid to try to stand and perhaps lose my thought of ponder from over yonder?

Why, oh why, can’t I be as those who are so normal and do nothing but wonder and have no ponder?

All these questions I cannot answer, because upon them I must ponder.

Why do I sit and ponder?

I wonder!

The Hurrier I Go, The Later I Never Get There.

Fast we go, fast we eat, and fast we sleep.
Fast we talk, fast we pray, all so fast we don’t stand still.

So quickly does our day go by, we wish we had more time.
We are the most proud when quickly our task is complete.

The more the confusion, the more urgent we become.
It’s as though the greater the chaos, the greater the accomplishment.

Hurry! Hurry! Hurry! Do more, be more.
Don’t get left behind is our life’s dream.

At the end of our hurry, what is the prize?
It is our death, whether in body or mind or possibly both.

Did, what was done, justify the fury of our labor?
Only if, in our hurry, it was to help someone else.

If I live only to do more and do more quickly.
Then, The Hurrier I Go, The Later I Never Get There, is what my existence has meant to the world.

When at night you lay down your head, did you?

Did You?
1. Compliment three people during the day.
2. Say "Please" a lot.
3. Say "Thank You" a lot.
4. Answer the phone with enthusiasm and energy in your voice.
5. Treat everyone you met like you wanted to be treated.
6. Show respect for police officers and firefighters.
7. Keep a tight rein on your temper.
8. Make the best of bad situations.
9. Admit your mistakes.
10. Avoid sarcastic remarks.
11. Use your wit to amuse, not abuse.
12. Do nice things for people who'll never find out it was you.
13. Think big thoughts, but relish small pleasures.
15. Remember people's names.
16. Take time to smell the roses.
17. Pray not for things, but for wisdom and courage.
18. Use your seat belts.
19. Make new friends but cherish the old ones.
20. Accept an outstretched hand.

These thoughts were borrowed many years ago from a book I have long since misplaced. I wish I could remember its name so that I could recommend it to you all. The thoughts listed here are timeless and necessary in these stressful and trying times. If we don't take charge of our own lives, then how can we serve others? So the question is; when at night you lay down your head, did you serve others or yourself??

How You Spent It.

If God granted you 70 years of life … You would spend:
24 years sleeping.
14 years working.
8 years in amusement.
6 years at the dinner table.
5 years in transportation.
4 years in conversation.
3 years in education.
3 years reading.
3 years at the television.

If you went to church every Sunday and prayed five minutes every morning and night, you would be giving God 5 months of your life. 5 months out of 70 years?
